Mentoring and
Support Services for Managers and Management Teams
|
| |
 |
|
|
Managing a project
in the voluntary and not for profit sector can be very tough and isolating,
sometimes it helps to have an independent person to help you review where
you are, what is working, what is not working, if changes in your style or
approach would be helpful or if the team needs to take time out to review
how it team work is happening. Maybe your organisation is going through
change or there are opportunities for development but the way forward is
unclear or your Trustee board/Management Committee needs to be refocused |
|
|
|
We can help you by
working with you and your management team to provide knowledgeable,
independent advice, support and mentoring for as long as you need it |
|
|
|
We provide this
service to a wide range of organisations like yours around the UK and to
help you decide if we can be of help to you we have illustrated recent work
with a client as brief case study below |
|
Case Study |
|
The manager of a
centre for homeless men with drug and alcohol issues asked
us to help him get the management team back on track as they were not
pulling together and the lack of consistency in decision making, supervision
and staff management meant that the staff and volunteers at the centre were
not following procedures, were challenging decisions and not performing
well. There was a lot of tension within the whole team and key staff were
leaving, the high turn over of staff added further to the sense of the
project ‘feeling out of control’. The board of trustees were out of touch
and not willing to help the manager deal with the issues. |

We worked with the
manager initially and then with the management team and the trustee board to
get them back on track. Supervision and staff procedures were reviewed and
implemented in a new format, access to staff training was changed so rather
than it being ‘ad hoc’ it was part of a personal development plan linked to
supervision and appraisal. |
|
|
|
Team away days were
provided for non management staff initially to get feedback from staff and
volunteers about the changes which were needed to make life better for
staff. |
|
|
|
The trustee board attended sessions with
the management team to receive feedback about what the team was doing and
what they needed the trustees to do, this was also an opportunity for the
trustee board to review its own skills and knowledge and to actively recruit
some additional board members with appropriate backgrounds which were more
representative. |
|
|
|
Finally an annual
review process was initiated whereby the management specialist who worked
with the team visits once a year to get feedback on progress and to flag up
any potential issues so that they can be resolved at an early stage. |

How Our Management Specialists Can Help You |
|
One management
specialist was allocated to work with the project throughout the management
intervention. This meant that there was continuity in our input and that the
manager, management team and staff got to know her and she was able to
challenge ideas and team behaviour in an informed and effective way. |
