INFORMATION ADVICE & GUIDANCE

This workshop is intended to develop skills for both volunteers and paid staff so that they can apply good practice in the advice giving process. We will explore what is meant by advice, information and guidance and the approaches that should be used in managing the advisor client relationship

WORKSHOP OBJECTIVES

By the end of the workshop participants will be able to:

  • Explain what is meant by advice, information and guidance

  • Demonstrate effective and non judgemental active listening skills

  • Apply advanced questioning skills and techniques such as paraphrasing

  • Develop effective skills in exploring the problem with the client 

  • Understand the importance of demonstrating empathy during client contact 

  • Explain how to record accurate case/file notes and records 

  • Demonstrate how to maintain and manage professional boundaries 

  • Understand the importance of working within an equality framework 

  • Communicate verbally in a clear and effective way 

  • Demonstrate the ability to work with a client who behaves in a challenging way 

  • Understand how to assist the client to make an action plan
